8 weeks postpartum July 21, 2011

FREE TIME. Is it just me, or has the free time in my days been sucked into a black hole? Gosh, I never realized how little one human being could accomplish while trying to care for a newborn. Sheesh.

ENDURANCE. It’s too bad that along with my free time, all of my endurance has been sucked into a black hole. I have nothing to blame it on….no extra blood volume, no extra 30lbs, no Bill’s Baby. Unfortunately I think it’s just going to take a whole lot of suck fest in order to build it up again. Today’s WOD was a good example: 400m run, 300 double unders, 400m run. My husband (bless his heart) totally expected me to CRUSH this WOD. He actually said to me as I was leaving the house – “So, you’re going to crush today’s WOD, right?” Psh. OF COURSE! Um, no. Not really. I spent a good portion of my WOD holding my jump rope, bent in half at the waist. Oh, and then there’s the part where I walked almost the entire 2nd run. Sigh. In the good news department, I PR’d my hang power snatch – 53kg’s! Woo Hoo!

BABY BOY. My Brady, how I love thee. He has started smiling and cooing, and that makes me the happiest Mommy in the whole world. He’s growing so fast! He’s already 14lbs!

EXPECTATION. To be honest (and I always am) I kind of expected to give birth, and regain all my old awesomeness. It never occurred to me that I might have to spend months and months getting back to where I was before getting pregnant. In all fairness, I’m feeling better with each passing WOD. I have almost lost all my weight from pregnancy, weighing in around 147lbs these days. My hips are definitely a little wider than pre-pregnancy, but I think they’ll probably shrink back. The only shitty part is that squatting feels all weird. I guess having a forward counter-balance for 9 months threw off my squat form. I’m trying to eat as healthy as I can so that both Brady and I stay healthy. Ice-cold Sam Adams is definitely calling my name though….that JERK.

  1. My doula used to tell me to drink a beer every day with lunch to help with milk supply! 😉 I swear our bodies take quite a hit during pregnancy. Fi is almost 9 months old and my hips are still wider than they were before. When I started running again I was shocked at how out of shape I felt. I could barely make it a 1/2 mile let alone 1-2 miles! I think really I was just in “new” shape instead of out of shape. That’s what I told myself anyways! 😉 You’ll totally get it back! Don’t beat yourself up too much… I mean, you just created a LIFE with that body! One day you’ll breeze through a WOD and high five yourself for coming back quicker than you thought! 🙂
